Lori Johns Angel Enjoyed Her First Taste Of Success

March 3rd, 2010 - Posted by admin

Female drag racing star Lori Johns Angel has been racing since before she was in high school, and first picked up the drag bug when visiting her Dad at the track at the age of 3. It soon became obvious that she was also destined for a life in the fast lane and was encouraged by her Dad to learn more about how cars work. Having done this, Lori was then taught to speed shift her 4 speed Corvette, something that she practiced down the side of the freeway on the way to high school. Entering her first race in this very same car, Lori Johns Angel also enjoyed her first taste of success winning the first race she entered.

After high school, Lori went on to attend Texas A&M University and during her freshman year she upgraded her car to a 1969 Chevrolet Nova which she raced at weekends. The Nova ran 10:20 seconds and 135mph over a quarter of a mile drag. Unfortunately, this was also the car that Lori was driving when she had a nasty accident in Louisiana. Having broken her neck, Lori had to wear a halo brace for 6 months but was soon back in the driving seat.

Widow Lori Johns Angel now has a daughter of her own and it’s interesting to see whether she will encourage her own daughter in the same way her Dad encouraged her and whether the history of successful drag racing will continue down the family line.
